CHAMFEST has been created by Jo Saw and her team of Chamonix locals. Jo is the owner of local tour operator, Chamonix All Year, and 2018 marks 15 years since the beginning of her love affair with Chamonix and the creation of the business.
To celebrate this milestone year, Jo wanted to share her passion for the valley and invite locals and visitors alike to a 3-day family festival.
The festival will showcase the best of Chamonix, bringing together the diverse international communities of the valley to celebrate all the reasons why #weloveChamonix.
What is CHAMFEST?
Our dream is to bring CHAMFEST to life by celebrating our mountain lifestyle through arts, music, workshops, local produce, services, activities and cuisine – in an engaging, inspiring, fun and educational way.
We know Chamonix is the ultimate summer mountain destination and, along with our great line-up, we'll show you some of its best bits.
The festival's dates 15th-17th June are the start of the summer season. Cable cars are starting to open. Temperatures are starting to rise. Chamonix will be bustling with visitors already. Come and get stuck in!
CHAMFEST will be open all day with family-friendly, sociable hours, from 10am to 10pm. The kids' zone will close a little earlier at 8pm so you've got time to get your kids tucked up in bed.
With the great programme that we're putting together, and with your support, CHAMFEST is sure to be an unmissable moment in Chamonix's summer social calendar - so come and take part in the first year!
Passionate Chamonix locals
- It’s such a beautiful and unique place to live.
- It’s an incredible cosmopolitan town.
- The people here are all passionate about where they live.
- It makes the culture here so unique, different nationalities all living together and contributing something special to the town.
Chamonix & the environment
We are conscious of the environmental problems that mountain resorts are facing, and the fact that Chamonix is not immune to these.
Across the 3-day festival, we'll be bringing in experts to help us and you to understand the positive steps that we can take to minimise our collective impact on the environment and preserve this beautiful valley for generations to come.
Local good causes
As CHAMFEST is a celebration of all things Chamonix, we are also focusing on giving back to the local community. We've hand-picked some local good causes and charities to support.
Compagnie des Guides
Since the Compagnie des Guides was founded in 1821, they have had a fund to support guides who injure themselves and their families, including in the event of a guide's death. This fund is called the Caisse de Secours.
Every guide contributes to the fund on a pro rata basis, from his excursions in the mountains.
In the last century, 100 years after the birth of the Compagnie, the contributions of the active guides could no longer keep pace with the demands of the fund.
The Fête des Guides was therefore created as an event in which every guide would take part, to raise money to add to the fund.
The Fête des Guides takes place every year on the 15th August, the Feast of the Assumption, in honour of the Virgin Mary who is said to watch over the guides and their clients when they are in the mountains.
All the profits from the Fête des Guides are added to the Caisse de Secours, and at CHAMFEST we are proud to be offering our visitors the chance to contribute to this worthy cause too.
CHAMFEST will also be supporting the charitable association for the PGHM mountain rescue team, called Crampons des Cimes.
The PGHM is the high mountain branch of the local military police and is the central emergency service which organises all mountain rescues.
The association, Crampons des Cimes, offers support in the personal or professional lives of the gendarmes who make up the PGHM.
Simply choose the option to donate to one of our good causes when you buy your tickets online. We will collect these monies on behalf of the Caisse de Secours and Crampons des Cimes, and all donations will be split equally between them when the festival is over.
Chamonix All Year
Chamonix All Year is a family-run tour operator owned by Jo and her husband Nick. As part of the business's 15th birthday celebrations, Chamonix All Year is proud to be the main sponsor of CHAMFEST for this exciting first year. They are offering great Chamonix accommodation deals for festival goers.
